The stencil work of Betty Pentland of Newport will be showcased in the Art Quilts tent. Betty is a long time resident of this area, a respected quilter and renowned stencil artist. She designs and cuts her own stencils, and paints them on cloth, paper and other materials. Many of her works will be on display. She will be featured in a live demonstration of stencil making and printing. In addition, Annette Houston, a visual artist, fabric artist and teacher, will provide ongoing demonstrations of using fabrics to create art. Her paintings and art quilts have recently been featured at offices of the SVWeekly in Newport, Tim Horton's in Newport, the Unity Center for the Creative Arts Gallery, and the Sebasticook Valley Federal Credit Union, among other places.
Seven members of the Valley Arts Alliance will participate in a show of their work at the Garden Club Federation Convention at the Black Bear Inn in Orono on Wednesday, June 17th, from 10:00 A.M. until 8 P.M. Members Deb Ellingwood, Bonnie Ross, Rebecca Pennock, Marjorie Whipple, Floyd Lawrence, Pam Barber and Annette Houston will show paintings and art quilts, and offer prints and cards for sale.

Valley Arts Alliance Show at Tim Hortons
The Valley Arts Alliance and Jamie and Jayne Myers, owners of Tim Hortons Restaurant, are pleased to announce the opening of an art exhibit at Tim Hortons on Route 7 in Newport. Local artists who are members of the Valley Arts Alliance will have their work on display during business hours. The theme for the show at Horton's is the medium of “Photography.” The art is for your viewing enjoyment and is also for sale with 10% of the proceeds going to the Valley Arts Alliance and 10% going to the Tim Horton Children's Foundation. This foundation sends deserving children to camp. They have sent over 13,000 children from all over to summer camps. Every store sends 2 children from the local community. This year 2 children from Newport went to Kentucky in July. The May and June show deadline is April 1st, and will have the theme of “Birds.” Anyone interested in having work in these shows should e-mail the VAA and become a member!
