Artist's Bank Job Nets 10 Hangings! |
|
Wednesday, March 19, 2008 Jim Lemieux, SVFCU and Linda Miller, artist Credit Union officials in Pittsfield were mute today, following an incident on Tuesday when artist Linda Miller and accomplice entered the bank and made over 9 holes in the walls, inserting hooks and hanging paintings as they went. James Lemieux, president of SVFCU, had, it turned out actually invited this to happen, and stated that his people were trained to remain calm and not try to get the best pieces installed in their own offices.Neither police nor FBI were summoned as tellers and members alike had no trouble explaining what they saw. "They just came in and systematically hung art", remarked one member. "I got a good look at both their faces, and they were smiling" she said. "I wouldn't be surprised if they tried the same thing again somewhere else".
Background checks revealed that the artist and friend, who turned out to be her husband, are both members of an upstart artist's group that call themselves the "Valley Arts Alliance". The "VAA" is composed of artists, writers, performers and patrons of the arts living in the Sebsticook Valley area. Their manifesto, actually more of a mission statement, can be found on their website at www.valleyartsalliance.org.
The show will be in the SVFCU lobby until April 30. 10% of any sales of artwork will to go toward the SVFCU "Ending Hunger Campaign".
